Research interest
Our work aims at better understanding the pathophysiology of bacterial lower respiratory tract infections in order to provide clinicians with prevention and therapeutic alternatives to antibiotics. We follow three axes of research: an epidemiological one that looks into the phenotypic and genotypic diversity of E. coli strains colonizing the oropharynx and infecting the lungs of critically-ill patients with a focus on the susceptibility of these strains to antiseptics agents such as chlorhexidine; a physiological one that seeks to identify the necessary traits strains need to harbor to infect the lungs. The third axis looks into non-antibiotic strategies to prevent or treat bacterial infections with a special emphasis on bacteriophages through a collaboration with Institut Pasteur. Our ultimate goal is to bring phagotherapy to the clinical field.
