Research interest
My research focuses on a translational approach aimed at supporting the development of phage therapy as an alternative to antibiotic treatment in the context of the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. My work spans the entire research continuum, from microbial ecology to preclinical models and clinical trials. It is grounded in a detailed understanding of phage–bacteria interactions to enable the rational design of effective and durable therapeutic strategies.
At the fundamental level, I investigate the ecological, genomic, and molecular determinants that govern interactions between bacteriophages and bacteria. Using large collections of phages and bacterial strains representative of the diversity of targeted species, this research aims to optimize phage selection, limit the emergence of bacterial resistance, and improve interactions between phages, as well as between phages and antibiotics.
The resulting data feed into the development of artificial intelligence–based predictive models designed to generate in silico phagograms and decision-support tools for recommending tailored phage therapies. These tools integrate both the characteristics of the targeted bacterial strain and the infectious context, within a personalized medicine framework.
Finally, I am involved in the development of preclinical models, particularly urinary and pulmonary models, as well as in several phage therapy clinical trials, notably in ventilator-associated pneumonia, within national and European research consortia.
